BIPHASIC EFFECTS OF CANNABIS
A biphasic effect means that low and high doses of a compound can have opposing effects. Many prescription medications have biphasic effects. Such is the case with cannabis. Why is this important for your cannabis treatment?
Every individual has their own biphasic response curve. Meaning the ideal or optimal dose of cannabis will vary by individual. However, every individual can find their optimal dose at the peak of the biphasic response curve.
Finding your optimal dose
You may be familiar with the phrase “less is more”. Microdosing is the practice of taking a smaller dose of medication than normally used. Microdosing is a helpful way to approach dosing cannabis because it allows patients to slowly work towards finding their optimal dose before triggering the biphasic effects that have been identified in cannabis i.e. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD).
Standardization: Predictable & Reliable
Most medications have a baseline dose. That could be a 5mg initial unit dose for example. Doctors can prescribe multiples of that baseline dose to patients to increase effectiveness or decrease it to minimize negative effects based on the established research for that medication. Standardization of dosing and delivery mechanisms lead to better understanding of strain and dosing effects, improving treatment efficacy.
